According to the Powell Goldstein website:
''Our lawyers serve clients in all aspects of business and personal legal matters and contribute to their communities through many civic organizations, charitable endeavors and public service legal organizations…Since its founding in 1909, the Firm has grown to approximately 250 lawyers and four offices in Atlanta, Georgia; Washington, DC; Dallas, Texas; and Charlotte, North Carolina. Our lawyers offer a wide variety of services and represent corporations and organizations throughout the United States and the world.''
In recent months, there has been speculation about Powell Goldstein's future. In June of this year, Jim McAlpin, chairman of Powell Goldstein, responded to questions from Above the Law (ATL):

''As a result of the general economic situation and its effect on law firms, including our firm, we have needed to reduce operating expenses this year. This has included a reduction of staff across administrative departments and offices, and totaling less than 10% of our overall staff.

We have, unfortunately, also had to reduce our associate and counsel ranks in practice areas most affected by the current state of the economy. The number of associates and counsel involved in this action was less than 10.''

With approximately 10 let go in June, the firm may experience more soon. According to early reports, published on ATL, ''As we understand it, the union between Bryan Cave and PoGo is not a ‘merger' so much as it is a buy-out. Additional tipsters have reported that nobody from PoGo — not staff, not associates, not even partners — is safe. Equity partners could be let go early next week.''

Bryan Cave is big law firm as well, but employs many more attorneys than Powell Goldstein, with a count around 800+. According to the Bryan Cave website, their client base is largely businesses, financial institutions, not-for-profits, government and individuals.
