<<Democrat Marc Dann was elected in the last year to clean up after calling his Republican predecessor crooked and unaccountable. Now, his fellow Democrats are distancing themselves from him. Dann's sexual scandals are the latest in a string of high-profile Democratic state official scandals, with the potential to embarrass the national Democratic Party along with Eliot Spitzer, who resigned as the governor of New York recently.

Dann last week held a news conference wherein he admitted that he had had an affair with a staffer and that there was a fair amount of sexual harassment going on in the attorney general's office. So much was going on that four people, including his illicit-affair partner, lost their jobs by quitting or being fired, which losses were announced at that news conference.

Dann has not yet resigned, though the top Democrats in the state have hung him out to dry by calling for his resignation or threatening him with impeachment.

Case Western Reserve University School of Law also yanked Dann as a commencement speaker this week.

Dann's defense? He wasn't qualified. Really. Oh, and he didn't expect to actually win, so he ran for a job he couldn't handle. The quote:

The former state senator who once worked in a small Youngstown law firm blamed his inexperience and said he was not equipped to take over a state agency with more than 1,400 employees, including 400 lawyers.

"I don't know how many people here expected me to win the election, but I certainly was not among them. It was a surprise that I won," he said.
This is quite interesting. I don't think I've ever heard the "Don't blame me, I wasn't qualified for the office I swore an oath to take" defense. It's particularly odd since apparently he insisted during the campaign that he was qualified. Guess that was a lie, as confirmed by Dann himself.

Good luck to Ohio with getting a competent AG soon. But for the rest of us, since Dann appears to be rejecting the idea he shall quit and thus shall be forced out, it shall be a fun spectacle.
