Every woman, and especially those who fall into the fashionista category, knows the importance and versatility of accessories. They can make an outfit more casual or more formal, create a certain look, or add a punch of color, stylistic flair, and a touch of class to any ensemble. Whether the accessory falls into the sunglasses, scarf, or handbag category, or is something else entirely, each plays an important role in the presentation of an outfit. Understanding this, Chopard has developed the ultimate accessory, which takes the form of a one-of-a-kind timepiece.
Estimated to be worth $25 million, the new proprietor of the "most expensive" title is a glorified timepiece that features an astonishing 201 carats of pink, blue, and white diamonds.
Chopard, the Switzerland-based luxury accessory, jewelry, and watch company, was founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard. Nearly 100 years after the high-precision watch manufacturer was established, Chopard's grandson, Paul-Andre, sold the business to Karl Scheufele after his sons revealed that they did not wish to run the century-old family business.
After acquiring Chopard, Scheufele, a goldsmith and watchmaker, merged his brand with Chopard's and continued to manufacture timepieces under the Chopard name. (Today, Chopard is still family owned and is headed by Karl and Karin Scheufele and their two children.) Throughout the years the company has evolved from a watch manufacturer alone; it now produces exquisite jewelry and accessories that range from fragrances to eyewear and has become famous the world over.
Building upon its solid reputation as a maker of exquisite pieces, Chopard has created a watch that is not only unique, exclusive, and breathtaking but also holds the title of "the most expensive watch in the world." The previous title holder was also a Chopard creation, known as the Super Ice Cube. The cost of that beautiful timepiece was a "cool" $1.2 million.
Estimated to be worth $25 million, the new proprietor of the "most expensive" title is a glorified timepiece that features an astonishing 201 carats of pink, blue, and white diamonds. The watch has three main areas of interest: three festooned heart-shaped diamonds, which include a 15-carat pink diamond, 12-carat blue diamond, and 11-carat white diamond. The heart-shaped diamonds are fastened onto a bracelet that has 163 carats of white and yellow pear-shaped diamonds constructed into a flowery design. Each group of white diamonds has at its center a small yellow diamond to reinforce the floral theme.
Cognizant of even the tiniest details, and demonstrating their importance, Chopard created a mechanism that, when pressed, enables the three diamond hearts to spring open — revealing the watch face, studded with yellow diamonds — in the same manner that flowers do when they bloom.
Many women would argue that all accessories are important, but ultimately the best kinds are those that sparkle…not merely the ones that glisten but those that are worthy — in size and value — of being worn.
As Elizabeth Taylor once said, "big girls need big diamonds." Evidently, Chopard agrees.
