A book on sexuality and faith receives top honors
A book titled Sexuality and the U.S. Catholic Church has bagged the first prize in the Catholic Press Association's (CPA) Gender Issues category. Edited by Lisa Sowle Cahill, T. Frank Kennedy, S.J., and BC Law Dean John Garvey, the book is one of the two brought out by Boston College's Church in the 21st Century initiative. With eyebrow-raising scandals on clerical abuses being unearthed, the Catholic Church has come under the microscope. It is being condemned for being neither too oppressive nor too easy-going on sexuality aspects. In Sexuality and the U.S. Catholic Church, the writers have tried to bring to the fore the work of top Catholic theologians, writers, and scholars on Catholic tradition, the contemporary challenges the Catholic Church has been facing day in and day out, and the measures that could be adopted to counter them.

New Family Violence Clinic at Chapman Law School
This fall, the Chapman University School of Law is going to open a Family Violence Clinic. The Law School's new initiative will help low-income families of Orange County to address the issue of domestic violence. Under the guidance of clinic director Marisa Cianciarulo, a veteran immigration lawyer, students of the clinic will offer free counseling on family law to both documented and undocumented residents in the county. Cianciarulo said that the clinic was created to help domestic violence survivors overcome their "unique challenges." This clinic is the third major clinic of its kind run at the Chapman law school. The program will also maintain the tradition of offering free legal assistance to underprivileged populations.
