Director of Operations, Marketing and Business Development
Job Responsibilities:
The Director of Operations, Marketing and Business Development at the law firm is a strategic role within the Marketing and Business Development (MBD) leadership team. The individual will act as the strategic right-hand to the Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer (CMBDO), focusing on driving the day-to-day operations of the department and spearheading key initiatives that promote innovation, data-driven decision-making, and executional excellence. The individual will be pivotal in modernizing the department's infrastructure and operations, managing critical technology deployments such as CRM, ERM, and experience management, optimizing internal workflows, and ensuring that systems, processes, and platforms align with the law firm’s growth goals and client-first approach.
Responsibilities include:
1. Department Operations & Leadership:
- Collaborate closely with the CMBDO to manage strategic planning, execution, and performance monitoring.
- Serve as the central point of operational oversight for a team exceeding 40 professionals across marketing, business development, communications, and technology.
- Develop and manage internal processes to boost team productivity, resource allocation, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Lead performance management tracking, budget planning support, and MBD reporting dashboards.
2. Technology Oversight & Enablement:
- Provide strategic and day-to-day leadership for the Marketing & BD Technology team.
- Oversee the firmwide implementation and adoption of core marketing/BD technology platforms, including CRM and experience management.
- Ensure platforms align with business goals and are adopted by both the MBD team and firmwide stakeholders.
- Collaborate with IT and external vendors to ensure successful rollouts and continuous platform optimization.
3. Strategic Initiatives & Innovation:
- Drive execution of department-wide initiatives, such as generative AI and workflow automation, business intelligence and reporting improvements, experience and credentialing processes, and operational audits.
- Identify gaps in current systems and processes and develop recommendations to evolve team operations, service delivery models, and technology integration.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work across departments (., Finance, IT, Talent, Practice Group leadership) to support the law firm’s go-to-market strategy.
- Establish and lead working groups for special projects involving client insights, lateral integration, and campaign execution.
- Be a visible and trusted thought partner for practice leadership and administrative executives.
5. Other:
- Assume additional responsibilities as requested.
- This role requires 60% in-office presence; remote work is permissible 40% of the time.
Education and Experience Information:
The ideal candidate should have:
- Over 13 years of experience in marketing/business operations, with a preference for professional services. Experience within a law firm is strongly preferred.
- Proven leadership and team management experience, with the demonstrated ability to motivate and develop teams.
- A deep understanding of marketing and BD tech stack, including CRM/ERM/Experience Management platforms, business intelligence tools, and workflow platforms.
- Experience managing enterprise technology rollouts and change management.
- Exceptional project management and organizational skills.
- A strong analytical mindset with a passion for continuous improvement.
- The ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead through ambiguity.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- The ability to function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment, prioritize multiple projects on a daily basis, and adjust to shifting priorities.
- Facility in analyzing, working with, and presenting data.
- The ability to collaborate and gain the respect, trust, and confidence of the law firm’s attorneys and professional staff.
