The law firm of Duane Morris LLP is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Assistant to support our Trial department in our Miami office. With over 900 attorneys in offices across the . and around the world, Duane Morris offers innovative solutions to the legal and business challenges presented by today’s evolving global markets.
As a Legal Assistant, you will work under general supervision and perform a variety of duties for the attorneys in the Trial department. You will maintain positive contact with clients, attorneys, and staff while observing confidentiality of client and firm matters. This is a fast-paced and demanding environment, and we are seeking candidates who thrive in this type of setting.
The responsibilities of this position include:
• Typing and proofreading correspondence, memoranda, and other legal documents
• Electronically filing legal case documents in State and Federal Courts
• Calendaring court dates and scheduling hearings
• Screening telephone calls and recording messages
• Reading, sorting, and dating incoming mail
• Establishing and maintaining calendar and deadline reminder systems
• Recording work to be billed to clients
• Possessing knowledge of key clients and contacts
• Receiving clients and visitors and maintaining good public relations
• Making appointments and assisting with travel arrangements for attorneys
Additional functions may include prioritizing tasks, proficiency in job-related software and applications, and working closely with administrative support staff. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under strict time constraints.
Qualifications for this position include:
• High school diploma required; Associate certificate or college degree preferred
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a law firm setting
• Ability to proofread and perform minor editing of routine law office correspondence and legal case matters
• High level of technical competency on all Microsoft Office and other job-related software packages and applications
• Ability to accurately transcribe legal documents
• Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
