Job Title: Business Development Specialist (M&A)
Job Responsibilities:
The Business Development Specialist (M&A) at the law firm is tasked with a variety of responsibilities aimed at driving business growth and enhancing the firm's market presence. Key responsibilities include:
- Pitching and Proposals: The specialist supervises the creation, preparation, and coordination of Requests for Proposals (RFPs), proposals, and pitches for new business development opportunities. This involves working closely with the practice-based pitch team, relevant partners, and the Business Development Manager. The role requires implementing ongoing enhancements to existing templates and content to regularly improve the content and design of pitch and proposal materials. The specialist is expected to develop a deep understanding of the law firm's business and take ownership of pitch and presentation content, drafting tailored copy to convey the firm's credentials, differentiators, and value proposition to potential clients.
- Marketing Materials: Responsibilities include creating, managing, and producing tailored experience lists using the firm's experience database. The specialist collaborates with the Experience team to ensure this database, along with attorney bios, are kept up to date with information from recent pitch responses. Maintaining frequently used documents such as awards, quotes, accolades, deals master, practice area descriptions, lawyer biographies, and pitches prepared by marketing is also part of the role, along with updating relevant sites with the latest information.
- Client Targeting and Client Growth: The specialist supports the Assistant Director/Sr. Manager, M&A, and Global BD Director, Transactions in focusing on new client acquisition initiatives, including identifying targets and appropriate routes to market. Additionally, the role involves assisting in identifying opportunities to cross-sell to existing clients of the firm and driving forward campaigns and initiatives to grow client relationships.
- Profile-Raising Activities, Content and Thought Leadership: Collaborating with the Marketing and global PR team, the specialist helps raise the M&A practice's internal and external visibility and positioning in key markets through speaking events, sponsorships, public relations, and social media. The role includes researching profile-raising opportunities for partners and ensuring maximum benefit from sponsorships and speaking slots. The specialist supports thought leadership by monitoring trends and collaborating with attorneys and the editorial team on related client mailing and articles.
- Event and Engagement Management: Responsibilities involve assisting with the strategic planning and execution of client events and speaking engagements in collaboration with the BD Assistant Director/Sr. Manager and global events team. The specialist analyzes attendee lists and prepares tailored materials to enhance engagement, supports attorney follow-up, and tracks outcomes and activities in the CRM system to ensure effective event management and client interaction.
- Operational Efficiency and Communication: The role includes following recommended guidelines and practices to enhance efficiency, customer service, and employee relations in alignment with the firm's core values. Developing and communicating departmental guidelines and procedures, ensuring accurate and timely responses to service requests, and demonstrating effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others are key aspects. The specialist manages firm resources responsibly, maintains a regular and reliable physical presence, complies with firm operations, policies, and procedures, and performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree is required.
- A minimum of three years of directly related experience in a law firm or professional services environment is necessary.
Salary Information:
The starting base salary for the Business Development Specialist (M&A) position is expected to be within the range of $100,000 - $125,000. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and other job-related factors, consistent with applicable law.
