Job Title: Senior Marketing and Business Development Manager

Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Marketing and Business Development Manager (Sr. MBDM) at the law firm is tasked with managing the relationship between assigned practices and the Marketing and Business Development (MBD) Department. This includes providing support for various MBD activities. The position involves working with other Marketing and Business Development Managers and professionals under the guidance of the Director of Marketing and Business Development, as well as practice group leaders and other necessary areas. The Sr. MBDM serves as the primary point of contact for all marketing and business development requests for the assigned practices, ensuring that attorneys receive a high-quality work product and seamless service.

Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as the MBD point of contact for lawyers from assigned practices and building trusted advisor relationships with practice group leaders (PGLs) and key stakeholders.
- Developing and executing annual strategic marketing and business development plans in collaboration with PGLs and the Director of MBD, ensuring alignment with firm priorities, tracking activities, and achieving measurable results.
- Identifying opportunities for external promotion or client development within assigned practices and partnering with appropriate MBD team members to execute these opportunities.
- Partnering with the Director of MBD on special projects to enhance processes, upskill the team, and provide leadership within the department.
- Developing and managing the annual marketing and business development budget for assigned practices, tracking return on investment (ROI), and providing regular reporting to PGLs.
- Participating in practice group meetings, contributing ideas, facilitating follow-up on opportunities, and promoting internal knowledge sharing.
- Evaluating, executing, and managing sponsorship opportunities, strategic alliances, and partnerships to maximize ROI.
- Supporting a variety of marketing and communications activities to ensure appropriate strategies and positioning, such as directory listings, rankings, award submissions, events, marketing materials, and thought leadership.
- Collaborating with the pitch and proposal team and actively participating in RFP kick-off calls to establish response strategies for assigned practices.
- Working with the firm’s public relations team to leverage deals, case wins, industry trends, and client relationships for media outreach.
- Collaborating with the events team and attorneys in assigned practices to develop client events and proprietary programming.
- Supporting firm-wide business development programs, including Client Feedback, Client Service Teams, and lateral partner integration as needed.
- Contributing to department-wide initiatives to improve overall marketing and business development functions.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
The position does not involve direct supervisory responsibilities but contributes to the oversight of two Marketing and Business Development Specialists.

Education and Experience Information:
A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field, along with ten or more years of related experience, is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Significant marketing or business development experience is necessary, and prior experience in a large legal, investment management, financial, or other professional services firm is preferred. Knowledge and experience in the private equity and/or mergers and acquisitions (M&A) industry are required.

The candidate must be a motivated self-starter, exhibit a high degree of initiative and proactivity, and be comfortable providing counsel on sophisticated business development strategy in several legal areas. They should demonstrate the ability to think creatively, introduce innovative ideas, and strategically approach business development and marketing initiatives. Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are essential, along with excellent project management skills, supervisory and managerial skills, and the ability to understand and support the firm’s goals, services, culture, and strategy.

Salary Information:
For the Chicago office, the annualized salary range for this position is $165,000 to $205,000. For the New York and Washington, . offices, the annualized salary range is $165,000 to $210,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
