Job Responsibilities
The Science & Technical Advisor plays a critical role in IP litigation by providing technical insights and clarity necessary for effective advocacy and decision-making. The primary responsibilities include:
- Reviewing patents, technical documents, and scientific literature to understand the technology involved in litigation.
- Identifying, collecting, and analyzing technical evidence relevant to IP litigation matters.
- Explaining complex technical concepts in accessible language to aid attorneys, judges, and juries in making informed legal arguments and decisions.
- Analyzing accused products or processes to assess potential infringement or non-infringement.
- Reviewing and interpreting technical documents produced by opposing parties.
- Preparing written summaries, presentations, and visual aids to communicate technical issues during litigation.
- Advising attorneys on the strengths and weaknesses of technical arguments and assisting in developing legal theories and strategies based on technical facts.
- Identifying key technical issues that may impact case outcomes.
- Assisting with the preparation of discovery requests and responses related to technical matters.
- Assisting in the selection and retention of expert witnesses, preparing them for depositions and trial testimony, and reviewing and critiquing expert reports and testimony.
- Acting as a liaison between the legal team and external technical experts, inventors, or clients to ensure consistent understanding of technical facts.
- Providing real-time technical input during depositions, hearings, and trials, and may appear in court on a case-by-case basis.
- Helping to develop demonstrative exhibits and other materials for use in court.

Education and Experience Information
- . in chemistry, biology, or a related field.
- 2+ years of industry experience preferred, but not required.
- Admission to the Patent Bar or familiarity with patents is preferred, but not required.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent technical research skills and familiarity with databases of technical literature.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Well-organized and able to independently manage multiple concurrent tasks.

Salary Information
For individuals assigned to or hired for this position in New York, the estimated annualized base salary range is $126,000-$180,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on the overall qualifications of the individual applicant, including, if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
