The Counsel, Employee Benefits & Employment Law position at GEICO is a great opportunity for an experienced lawyer to join a dynamic company and provide legal advice and counsel on a variety of employee benefits and employment law issues. The successful candidate will have at least 5 years of relevant experience and strong knowledge of ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and the Affordable Care Act. This is a hybrid role, with the candidate expected to work 3 days onsite at the Chevy Chase, MD or Manhattan, NY office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal support for the design, implementation, and administration of employee benefit plans.
- Advise on fiduciary duties, prohibited transactions, and dispute resolution related to benefit plans.
- Stay updated on developments in employee benefits law and interpret their impact on clients and policies.
- Represent clients in regulatory inquiries, audits, and litigation related to employee benefits.
- Collaborate with HR, finance, and other departments to ensure compliance with legal requirements and organizational goals.
- Conduct training and provide guidance on employee benefits laws and best practices.
- Support the Employment Law team by providing advice on employment law issues.
- Manage complex legal matters and provide sound advice to clients.
Basic Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to practice law in at least one . jurisdiction.
- 5+ years of employee benefits and employment law experience.
- Deep knowledge of ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and the Affordable Care Act.
- Experience with retirement plan design, health and welfare benefits, and other employee benefits programs.
- Familiarity with EEO, wage and hour, and other employment law issues.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively.
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
- Proven track record of managing complex legal matters and providing sound advice.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience providing general employment law advice.
- Insurance industry-related experience.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams.
Location:
- Hybrid role, with 3 days working onsite in either the Chevy Chase, MD or Manhattan, NY office.
Annual Salary:
- $151, - $235, (final salary dependent on various factors).
