Overview
**Members Only**, a leading law firm, is seeking a highly qualified Manager, Business Development & Marketing (BD&M) to join our team. This position is responsible for providing strategic insights and tactical execution of initiatives, projects, programs, activities, and processes that support the business development and marketing strategies of the Litigation Department practice groups. The ideal candidate will have experience in both ideation and execution, strong project management skills, and a passion for aligning firm capabilities with client needs to help attorneys proactively engage clients and win work. This is a highly visible, hands-on, and results-oriented position, offering close collaboration with leaders of the Litigation Department and BD&M team.
Responsibilities
Business Development and Strategy
- Contribute advice, actionable insights, and meaningful market analysis to the development and implementation of practice group strategies and business plans
- Work with practice group leaders, partners, and BD&M leadership to develop and execute specific marketing goals, initiatives, and strategies
- Identify cross-selling opportunities within existing practice group clients and other firm clients
- Support practice group leaders in annual business and budget planning processes
- Help create and drive strategy for and manage responses to customized pitches, business development presentations, and RFPs
- Understand and support the pitch process, including competitive intelligence and research
- Keep up-to-date with industry, legal, and business trends to identify business development and promotional opportunities
- Assist with the integration of lateral partners and counsel
Marketing, Profile Raising, and Communications
- Conceptualize sophisticated services and communicate their benefits effectively to clients
- Create and regularly update marketing collateral, such as pitch materials, brochures, practice group descriptions, and website content
- Work with the communications and PR team to build profile for the practice groups
- Produce and manage seminars, receptions, webinars, and other marketing events
- Evaluate sponsorships and opportunities to participate in various directories
Coaching and Training
- Provide coaching to attorneys to help them develop new business and expand existing relationships
Team Leadership and Management
- Directly supervise a BD&M Specialist
- Build trusted relationships with attorneys and colleagues to develop and execute practice group plans and initiatives
- Recommend and support traditional marketing activities
- Provide discipline and structure to advance projects and plans
- Coordinate with the BD&M Specialist to incorporate Return on Investment (ROI) mentality in all business development activities and expenditures
- Evaluate investments and make recommendations for new and existing programs
Qualifications
- required
- Minimum of seven (7) years of experience with business development, marketing, client management and/or direct sales experience within a professional service firm required
- Experience with or understanding of litigation focused practice groups strongly preferred
Salary Information
Pursuant to the Illinois Equity Pay Act, the salary range for this Chicago based position is between $124,800 - $187,300. These figures represent the full compensation range of this position. The actual offered amount will be determined based on the following factors: education, experience, geographic market, and internal pay equity at Foley.
