Job Responsibilities
The Business Law and Paralegal Studies Adjunct Faculty member at a reputed firm is responsible for teaching various courses within the School of Business, Technology, and Trades (BTT). The primary responsibility includes teaching Criminal Law in the evenings starting in Fall 2023, with the possibility of teaching additional courses in Legal Writing and Research, Bankruptcy, Family Law, Real Estate Law, Estate Planning, Legal Transactions, Torts, and Trial Preparation as needed. Faculty members are expected to maintain up-to-date knowledge in their teaching disciplines and stay informed about trends in community college education. Active participation in departmental communication is essential. Moreover, adjunct faculty may be required to perform other duties as assigned and assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Education and Experience Information
Candidates for this position must possess a Juris Doctorate (JD) degree and have at least two years of current occupational experience in Law. The role requires excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, the ability to write syllabi and exams, and the capability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments. Candidates should be able to work effectively with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds. While not mandatory, a preferred qualification is a current Virginia license to practice law. Experience teaching in a college setting, particularly at the community college level, is considered advantageous.
Salary Information
The hiring range for this position is based on a per credit hour rate, which is determined by the candidate's qualifications.
