Job Title: Employee Benefits Associate – Mid to Senior Level
Job Responsibilities:
The Employee Benefits Associate at the law firm is expected to take on a variety of responsibilities within the national Employee Benefits law practice. Key duties include handling matters independently and building a practice in a collegial environment. The role requires excellent client relationship skills and the ability to provide practical insight and creative solutions to complex legal issues. The attorney will be involved in:
- Managing private, tax-exempt, and public (governmental) retirement plans, including 401(k), 403(b), and 457(b) plans, as well as defined benefit plans.
- Providing support for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) benefits.
- Advising on 409A and executive compensation matters.
- Overseeing health and welfare plans and ensuring compliance with specific health plan laws such as ACA, COBRA, and HIPAA.
- Engaging in ERISA litigation.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the Employee Benefits Associate position should have a minimum of five years of experience in relevant areas, including retirement plan management, M&A benefits support, executive compensation, health and welfare plans, and ERISA litigation. The law firm prefers candidates with previous law firm experience and those who possess excellent writing and oral advocacy skills. A self-starter mindset, practical insight, and creativity are also essential for this role.
Salary Information:
The annualized salary range for the Employee Benefits Associate position in Washington, California, and New York is $225,000 to $330,000. Actual compensation will be adjusted based on the candidate’s education, training, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law. Full-time employees may also be eligible for a bonus and a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health insurance with an optional Health Savings Account (HSA), short-term and long-term disability insurance, dental and vision care, life insurance, and flexible spending accounts for healthcare and dependent care. Additionally, the law firm provides a 401(k) plan, vacation and sick time, 10 paid holidays each year, and access to an employee assistance program. Attorneys generally take approximately three weeks of vacation per year, though this may vary based on client and firm needs. The firm also offers voluntary benefits programs such as voluntary accident insurance, voluntary life and disability insurance, voluntary long-term care, voluntary critical illness and cancer insurance, and pet insurance. Commuter and transit programs are available as well.
