Legal Project Manager
Job Responsibilities
The Legal Project Manager is responsible for maximizing results and increasing profitability for practice groups within the law firm. This involves performing financial analysis, management reporting, budgeting, resource management, and expense control. The Legal Project Manager supports the law firm’s practice management efforts, which include:
- Analyzing the law firm, practice group, client, and matter financial information.
- Collaborating with multiple internal departments to encompass various tasks related to pricing and profitability analysis.
- Developing, implementing, and coordinating practice and legal project management platforms and tools.
- Training lawyers to use those tools and implementing best practices in matter management.
- Preparing financial information for assigned practice groups and examining accounting and financial records to ensure data accuracy.
- Developing reports on monthly performance and regularly meeting with Practice Group Leaders, financial personnel, and practice group directors to review and discuss results.
- Providing technical expertise in preparing reports and summaries, creating and maintaining templates, analysis, cost findings, and management briefings.
- Analyzing and reporting practice group and law firm metrics and comparing financial and operational performance against internal and external benchmarks.
- Identifying trends in financial performance and providing recommendations for improvement.
- Understanding law firm economics and the firm’s financial system and related financial tools to train partners, attorneys, and practice groups.
- Performing annual budgeting analysis and prospective modeling to predict period-end performance and determining the impact of proposed initiatives.
- Assisting Service Delivery leadership in coordinating tasks with analyst-level resources and providing direction and work product review as needed.
- Assisting in developing strategic plans and ensuring that the strategic planning process stays on track.
- Undertaking special projects in support of the law firm's strategic initiatives.
- Collaborating with Business Intelligence and IT on the development of client-level and matter-level progress reports.
- Actively seeking opportunities to improve processes, create efficiency, and automate tasks.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information
Minimum Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
Certificates
- Project management certification (., PMP, PRINCE2, etc.) is preferred.
Minimum Years of Experience
- 6 years of financial analysis, accounting, or business analysis experience, preferably in a professional services environment.
Essential Job Expectations
- Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with clients, lawyers, business professionals, and third parties.
- Produce deliverables, answer ,962 per year, depending on the candidate’s geographic market location. The compensation offered for employment will also depend on other factors, including the candidate’s experience, skills, educational and professional background, and overall qualifications. Work Environment
The position offers a hybrid work arrangement comprised of remote and in-office work, determined in coordination with the hiring manager or supervisor and subject to modification at the law firm’s discretion in the future.
