Job Title: Director of Marketing and Engagement
Job Responsibilities:
The Director of Marketing and Engagement at the law firm is responsible for providing leadership and management to the Marketing team, as well as overseeing strategic direction and implementation of firmwide and practice-specific marketing campaigns. This role works in close collaboration with the Chief Business Development and Marketing Officer (CBDMO) and the Marketing and Business Development (MBD) department leadership to drive client and prospect engagement, brand awareness, client engagement, and revenue growth.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing a multi-year strategic roadmap aligned with the firm's business goals, focusing on marketing technology, content, and campaign initiatives and events.
- Identifying opportunities for innovation and digital transformation across marketing functions.
- Benchmarking the firm's marketing infrastructure, performance, and investment against industry best practices and reporting findings to the CBDMO.
- Developing and managing the department's budget strategy, prioritizing investments across technology, events, and operations.
- Establishing a cohesive technology vision and architecture to support marketing and business development goals.
- Directing the evaluation, implementation, and integration of enterprise marketing platforms such as CRM, ERM, CMS, and marketing automation tools.
- Developing a data strategy to enable advanced analytics and actionable insights for campaign optimization and sales enablement.
- Partnering with IT leadership to ensure compliance with governance and security standards.
- Managing relationships with technology vendors, including contract negotiations and annual performance evaluations.
- Acting as a brand steward, ensuring consistent messaging and visual presentation across all channels.
- Refining and enforcing brand strategy through templates, style guides, graphic design, and governance.
- Driving the development and implementation of marketing plans and campaigns, measuring and reporting on campaign metrics and efficacy.
- Collaborating with business development teams to create account-based marketing plans for key clients.
- Overseeing social media and employee engagement strategies to amplify brand visibility.
- Continuously evaluating and enhancing internal and external marketing communication strategies to align with firm objectives.
- Leading the optimization of events and sponsorship investments as a critical go-to-market strategy.
- Establishing a firm-wide events strategy aligned with business development and client engagement objectives for each practice group.
- Introducing innovative ideas related to digital marketing, data analytics, Generative AI, and emerging technologies.
- Implementing tools and frameworks to measure and optimize marketing ROI across all channels.
- Leading a multidisciplinary team, fostering a collaborative, high-functioning environment focused on building an innovative, creative, and client-centric marketing program.
- Defining professional development goals and providing coaching, training, and career path planning.
- Directly supervising a team of three, with responsibility for a team of more than twelve, including mentoring, training, and developing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; resolving problems; and making recommendations for hiring, budgeting, promotion, and compensation.
Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Journalism, Marketing, Communications, or a related field is required.
- Ten or more years of marketing management experience with a strong background in brand development and management, marketing communications, and digital technology.
- Advanced knowledge of marketing technology platforms, including CRM, CMS, BI tools, and marketing automation software.
- Strong leadership, project management, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple initiatives and projects and handle complex relationships.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with courtesy and diplomacy and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of attorneys, clients, staff, and outside contacts.
- Must be quality and results-oriented, proactive with excellent troubleshooting, problem resolution, and follow-through skills.
- Ability to identify and analyze complex marketing issues and recommend and implement solutions.
- Understanding of business implications of decisions, display orientation to profitability, demonstrate knowledge of the market and competition, and align work with strategic goals.
- Exceptional organizational skills, including record-keeping, data collection, and system information.
- Ability to compile and analyze data and furnish concise, detailed information in report format, written correspondence, email, or verbally.
- Exhibit a high degree of initiative and critical-thinking skills in exercising independent judgment to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a demanding, fast-paced, detail-oriented work environment.
- Expertise in financial management, budget planning, and ROI-driven decision-making.
- Proactive mindset with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
- Ability to occasionally retrieve and distribute marketing-related materials, written documentation, or office supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Work may require more than hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.
- Ability to work effectively under remote management.
Salary Information:
In the Chicago office, the annualized salary range for the Director of Marketing and Engagement position is $180,000 to $290,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
