Job Title: Senior Corporate Counsel - Real Estate
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee corporate compliance operational objectives by contributing information, reviewing, and providing recommendations.
- Support the entire real estate lifecycle, including the acquisition, development, and management of properties.
- Lead the review and negotiations for a variety of complex commercial transactions, including reviewing, negotiating, and drafting purchase agreements and leases.
- Provide legal advice related to construction and other real estate matters; participate in legal actions and litigation as needed.
- Collaborate with Real Estate Administration, Construction, Facilities, Regions, and other attorneys to maintain the value and integrity of corporate assets, including supporting the lease renewal process and drafting amendments.
- Manage, support, and advise on condemnation actions, disputes with landlords/adjacent property owners, tax matters, common area maintenance (CAM) matters, or any other matters affecting real estate.
- Initiate offers and negotiate property deals in collaboration with a broker network.
- Review and recommend amendments to various documents and agreements, including easement agreements, development agreements, and restrictive covenants.
- Participate during the escrow process to ensure entitlement to build and operate a functional store.
- Research, recommend, and implement updates to standard forms/templates.
- Assist employees or other customers by answering questions related to real estate processes, procedures, and services.
- Provide recommendations for best practices, policy, and process enhancements.
- Complete work in a timely and accurate manner while providing exceptional customer service.
- Provide expert legal advice and counsel to various departments within the corporate office on a wide range of legal matters.
- Champion the company's principles and standards and collaboration.
- Provide strategic and business-focused problem-solving, with the ability to balance legal risk and business impact.
- Prepare action plans; resolve problems; identify trends; determine system improvements; implement changes.
- Interpret new regulations and laws by reviewing and analyzing proposed and adopted state legislation and regulations.
- Conduct legal research on relevant issues and developments impacting the organization's operations.
- Coach, mentor, and train members of the real estate and legal team.
- Monitor department projects to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the agreed quality level. Monitor and adjust employee workloads.
- Gather, track, and report department attainment of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to upper management.
- Ensure company procedures are followed, including the tracking and publishing of metrics.
- Work collaboratively across departments to identify and resolve risks, conflicts, and challenges, recommend resolutions, and implement process improvements.
- Stay current on the latest industry technologies, trends, and strategies; bring forward solutions and serve as a Trusted Expert.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
- A minimum of ten years’ experience advising clients on corporate matters is preferred. In-house counsel experience is preferred.
- Must demonstrate basic knowledge of real estate law and its application in the real estate lifecycle process, including a solid understanding of legal terms and contract principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is needed.
- Expert ability to communicate across all levels of the organization, present complex ideas concisely, and clearly articulate ideas both verbally and in writing is necessary.
- Excellent analytical, planning, and negotiation skills are needed.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the expert ability to develop strong relationships with key members of both internal and vendor teams.
- Demonstrated business acumen with an expert knowledge and understanding of business issues, priorities, goals, and strategy is necessary.
- Must be highly organized, extremely detail-oriented with strong leadership experience.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, treat others with respect, and uphold company values is a key attribute.
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced, goal-oriented, and time-sensitive environment.
- Ability to drive organizational transformation; communicates openly and builds consensus with stakeholders.

Educational Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (.) law degree from an accredited law school.
- Admittance to and continuous Good Standing to at least one State Bar within the .
- A Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
