Legal Assistant - Consumer Protection
Job Responsibilities
The Legal Assistant position within the Consumer Protection Unit (CPU) of the organization involves a variety of tasks to support the enforcement of state and federal laws that protect consumers from fraudulent, deceptive, and unfair business practices. The CPU engages in civil litigation to enforce laws such as the Oklahoma Consumer Protection Act, the Oklahoma Antitrust Reform Act, and statutes regulating telemarketing, data privacy, and price gouging. Specific duties of the Legal Assistant include:
- Creating and maintaining electronic matter files according to internal guidelines.
- Supporting legal case management by organizing files, calendaring deadlines and meetings, assisting in the preparation of pleadings, exhibits, and briefs, and tracking case progress.
- Performing data entry and maintaining precise records of case-related information.
- Conducting discrete legal and factual research assignments using online databases and resources.
- Proofreading, formatting, and finalizing correspondence, memoranda, briefs, and other legal documents.
Education and Experience Information
Applicants for the Legal Assistant position must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Pro. Preference is given to those with prior experience as a legal assistant or paralegal. Additionally, all applicants must agree in writing to complete and satisfactorily pass a background investigation.
Salary Information
The salary for the Legal Assistant position is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
