Paralegal Responsibilities: Prepare materials in support of pleadings, motions, and depositions. Accomplishes law firm mission by completing other duties as needed. Follow up with opposing counsel on overdue answers and discovery responses (Filing defaults, Agreed Orders, Motions to Compel, etc.). Maintain case file by performing monthly review of cases with your assigned team. Schedule hearings, depositions, mediations, and inspections. Coordinate with judges, opposing counsel, clients, mediators, vendors, and other legal positions in case. Drafts legal documents including routine pleadings and motions, affidavits, and interrogatories; files motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures. Handle incoming invoices. Bills clients/ ensures billing requirements are met. Draft correspondences to adjusters, clients, mediators, opposing counsels and judges. Draft motions and notices/ ensuring subpoenas are served, redacting, and putting together documents for discovery purposes. Ensure deadlines are met. Calendar deadlines, hearings, depositions, and mediations. Open and closing of a file. Assist attorneys with trial preparation, which may include attending trials and hearings. Develop and maintain records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases. Perform other related duties as assigned. Prepare materials in support of pleadings, motions and depositions; to include legal research (prior use of Westlaw preferred). Accomplish law firm mission by completing other duties as needed.
Qualifications: Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or related field required. Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred. Paralegal certificate required. Should have 3+ years of related experience and/or training in First Party Property litigation; or equivalent combination of education and experience with litigation. Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment. Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
