Job Title: Employee Benefits Associate – Mid to Senior Level

Job Responsibilities:
The Employee Benefits Associate will be responsible for contributing to the national Employee Benefits law practice at the law firm. The role involves working independently to handle various matters and building a practice within a collegial environment. Specific responsibilities include:

- Providing legal expertise in private, tax-exempt, and public (governmental) retirement plans, including 401(k), 403(b), and 457(b) plans, as well as defined benefit plans.
- Offering M&A benefits support.
- Handling 409A and executive compensation matters.
- Advising on health and welfare plans and specific health plan laws, including the Affordable Care Act (ACA), COBRA, and HIPAA.
- Engaging in ERISA litigation.

The candidate is expected to have excellent client relationship skills, practical insight, creativity, and a self-starter mindset. Strong writing and oral advocacy skills are also required. The role demands a commitment to client service, which includes understanding client pressures, business objectives, and legal needs, and delivering what matters most to them.

Education and Experience Information:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of five years of experience in the relevant areas mentioned above. While law firm experience is preferred, candidates should demonstrate the ability to handle matters independently. A law degree and admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction are required. Candidates should also possess excellent writing and oral advocacy skills.

Salary Information:
The annualized salary range for this position in Washington, California, and New York is $225,000 to $330,000. Actual compensation will be adjusted based on the candidate’s education, training, experience, and other job-related factors as permitted by law. Full-time employees may be eligible for a bonus and a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health insurance with an optional Health Savings Account (HSA), short-term disability, long-term disability, dental insurance, vision care, life insurance, Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, and a 401(k) plan. Employees are entitled to vacation, sick time, and 10 paid holidays each year. The initial sick leave benefit is 80 hours per year. Attorneys typically take approximately three weeks of vacation annually, subject to client and firm needs. Additional voluntary benefits include accident insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, long-term care insurance, critical illness and cancer insurance, and pet insurance. Commuter and transit programs are also available.
