Job Title: Senior Manager - Legal Project Management
Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Manager - Legal Project Management is tasked with supporting the Senior Director - Legal Operations in developing and implementing the law firm’s Legal Project Management (LPM) Program Standards. This role requires providing support and guidance to attorneys in several areas, including scope of work development, budget development, process planning, communication plan development, and post-project review. The Senior Manager will oversee the firm's LPM software and ensure its effective usage. Essential functions and responsibilities include:
- Assisting attorneys in defining the client value perspective.
- Identifying and evaluating market trends and opportunities with respect to legal service delivery models, cost structures, and client service.
- Analyzing factors affecting the delivery of value on client engagements and proposing methods to improve.
- Conducting statistical analysis and developing task-based billing trend reports.
- Collaborating with attorneys and the pricing team to propose appropriate fee arrangements based on quantitative data.
- Assisting in publishing influential LPM success stories.
- Directing and coordinating with Process and Service Capability (PSC) leaders on implementing efficient processes for commonly used matter types.
- Assisting PSC leaders in identifying unprofitable matter types and proposing improvement solutions.
- Organizing and conducting client and client team LPM meetings, providing documentation and implementation support to achieve defined objectives.
- Assisting in firm-wide LPM training efforts, including workshops, PSC presentations, Strategic Business Unit (SBU) presentations, and client team presentations.
- Identifying opportunities to streamline the legal service delivery process through technology improvements, business process reengineering, or other methods.
- Supervising ongoing development of client budgets and tracking actual performance against budgets for internal engagement management and external client reporting.
- Coordinating the administrative oversight of legal project management initiatives for specific clients.
- Regularly assisting or presenting to internal groups on pricing, profitability, legal project management, and law firm economics.
- Managing the Legal Project Management Team.
Education and Experience Information:
- A Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in Accounting or Finance is required. A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of progressive expertise in a related area is required.
- Substantial experience in project management and implementation of project management disciplines, including working directly with partner-level client managers, is required. Experience in an LLP partnership structure is strongly preferred.
- Robust knowledge of legal staffing, budgeting, profit modeling, and project management tools is required.
- Ability to analyze and interpret information from various sources and apply critical and creative thinking to develop solutions to complex problems.
- Familiarity with data warehouse extraction and budget platforms is required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in all Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel and MS Project or similar Project Management software.
Salary Information:
Compensation for this position is commensurate with skill and experience, and the exact compensation will vary based on factors such as skills, experience, and location. The expected compensation ranges for this position in various states and jurisdictions are as follows:
- State of California: $125,000 - $239,000
- State of Colorado: $115,000 - $205,000
- State of Illinois: $113,000 - $219,000
- Jersey City, NJ: $136,000 - $246,000
- State of Maryland: $121,000 - $184,000
- State of Massachusetts: $125,000 - $239,000
- State of Minnesota: $125,000 - $207,000
- State of New York: $116,000 - $251,000
- State of Washington: $121,000 - $230,000
- Washington, .: $161,000 - $237,000
The above salaries do not include a discretionary bonus, which is non-guaranteed and dependent on individual and firm performance.
