This large firm has a long history of serving clients throughout the Southern United States. They have a diverse practice that includes virtually all areas of litigation and transactional law. Pro bono work by all attorneys is encouraged, and billable hours credit is given. Associates receive excellent training and feedback, as well as early responsibility and meaningful work.
Paralegal The candidate will perform various substantive legal duties under the supervision and direction of a group of attorneys in the office. Will organize and maintain files from the inception of the case through the completion. Conduct factual investigations to identify key parties and relevant documents for the preparation of discovery. Assist in the preparation of discovery requests and discovery responses. Coordinate depositions of parties requested by attorneys (. claimant, treating physicians, experts). Draft various pleadings. Assist with all aspects of case litigation, preparation and identification of exhibits for motions, position papers, mediation, depositions and trial. Verify case citations in briefs for current validity and accuracy through LexisNexis. Interact with government entities, physician offices, hospitals and court officials as well as with clients. Assist in trial with exhibits, demonstrative aids and witnesses. Maintain attorney calendars up-to-date with case deadlines. Conduct legal research. Maintain medical records up to date and into chronology binders. Schedule and coordinate Independent Medical Examinations, Vocational Rehabilitation Evaluations, marine and economists with the preparation of expert reports. Maintain time sheets and meet firm deadlines as outlined.
The candidate should have a four-year college degree, certification in paralegal studies, and 1+ year of litigation experience. Significant experience as a paralegal may be substituted for the certification. Should be skilled in those relating to computer technology, automated legal research (LexisNexis), assertiveness, interpersonal relationships, telephone communication skills, excellent writing/grammar skills, analytical reasoning and organization. Experience with litigation software and case management software is desirable. Familiarity with available litigation support technology is needed.
