Job Responsibilities
The Insurance Defense Legal Assistant is responsible for a range of tasks that support the legal team, particularly in litigation matters. Key responsibilities include:
- Scheduling depositions and hearings to ensure that all legal proceedings are properly organized.
- Calendaring deadlines and trial orders to keep track of important dates and ensure compliance with timelines.
- Preparing enclosure documents and packages for mail, messenger, and overnight delivery, making sure all attachments, exhibits, and enclosures are complete and intact.
- Preparing, filing, and serving legal documents both electronically and in hard copy, in accordance with applicable civil rules and local rules.
- Assisting with client billing and invoice payment in cooperation with the billing attorney.
- Utilizing Word and Adobe proficiently to prepare legal documents and correspondence.
- Communicating effectively, managing deadlines, and following up on outstanding items, while maintaining a high level of detail orientation.
- Remaining goal-oriented and capable of working in a fast-paced, evolving environment as part of a team.
Education and Experience Information
The candidate must have at least 1+ years of experience in litigation, with prior personal injury experience being a plus but not a requirement. The role requires prior experience managing attorney calendars and scheduling, as well as drafting legal documents including standardized letters, pleadings, and reports. A working knowledge of Florida court procedures and familiarity with e-service and e-filing is essential.
