Job Overview:
A respected law firm is seeking an experienced Employment Attorney with a minimum of five years of focused experience in employee benefits and ERISA matters. The successful candidate will play a key role in advising clients on a range of benefits-related legal issues, including plan design and compliance, executive compensation, fiduciary risk, and regulatory investigations. This position is ideal for attorneys who thrive in a dynamic legal environment and possess strong technical knowledge in benefits law.

Location:

  • New York City, NY

Duties:

  • Advise clients on qualified retirement plan design and compliance

  • Provide counsel on executive compensation and nonqualified deferred compensation under Section 409A

  • Counsel clients on health and welfare plan requirements, including Affordable Care Act compliance

  • Draft and review benefit plan documents and related agreements

  • Guide clients through fiduciary duties and risk management under ERISA

  • Represent clients in ERISA claims and dispute resolution

  • Manage governmental audits and investigations involving the Department of Labor (DOL), IRS, and other agencies

  • Advise on benefits-related issues in mergers and acquisitions and other corporate transactions

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in employee benefits and ERISA law

  • Substantive experience with retirement plans, health and welfare benefits, and executive compensation

  • Prior experience representing plan sponsors, fiduciaries, and service providers

  • Ability to manage multiple clients and complex benefit issues independently

  • Strong understanding of applicable federal statutes and regulations

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active and in good standing with at least one . state bar

  • Admission to the bar in the firm’s jurisdiction preferred or willingness to become admitted

Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, ACA, and other applicable laws

  • Excellent legal writing, analytical, and communication skills

  • Strong client service orientation and problem-solving ability

  • High attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines

  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
