Associate Director – Business Development: Corporate & Finance Transactions Department
Job Responsibilities
The Associate Director of Marketing & Business Development at the law firm is tasked with driving growth across the global Corporate & Finance Transactions (CFT) department. This role involves executing strategic firm-wide initiatives and managing daily marketing and business development activities for the Corporate Transactions Practice Group, which specializes in Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity, and Capital Markets. The individual will also mentor and provide oversight to divisional teams in the US for areas such as Tech & Comms, Tax & Employee Benefits, Energy, and Finance, ensuring seamless operational integration and strategic alignment across key business units. Key responsibilities include:
- Strategic Partnership: Collaborating with the CFT Director of Business Development and departmental leaders to design and implement comprehensive business plans to enhance client engagement globally.
- Primary Liaison: Acting as the main resource for the Corporate Transactions practice group, offering expert coaching on business opportunities.
- Market Insights: Developing an understanding of the law firm's market position and tracking market trends and client behaviors.
- Collaborative Leadership: Working with all sectors and service lines to promote the CFT department's expertise and leading cross-departmental initiatives.
- Pitch & Proposal Leadership: Leading the development of pitches and RFP responses, promoting cross-selling opportunities, and tracking performance metrics.
- Budget & ROI Management: Planning and managing budgets with Practice Group Leaders and attorneys, developing best practices for tracking expenditure, and ensuring a robust ROI on business development tactics.
- Team Oversight: Mentoring and managing the global business development team, enhancing collaboration with Marketing & Business Development, Business Services, and attorneys.
- Project Management: Participating in and managing department-wide infrastructure projects and best practices.
- Client Teams: Directing and supporting the growth of assigned CFT department client teams.
- Event & Collateral Coordination: Supporting external client events and leading the production of collateral materials.
- Brand Development: Leading thought leadership campaigns and market-facing initiatives to strengthen the firm's brand and client engagement.
- Lateral Integration: Leading business development efforts associated with lateral integration, including outreach to existing and prospective clients.
- Additional Duties: Undertaking other responsibilities to further business development goals.
Education and Experience Information
Candidates for the Associate Director position are required to have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
- A minimum of twelve years of prior global law firm business development/marketing experience, with a proven track record in delivering complex international initiatives.
- Leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a global team.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data, draw insights, and make data-driven decisions.
- A collaborative attitude, with the ability to work under pressure and with shifting priorities.
- Flexibility to work varying hours as needed.
Competencies required for the role include being action-oriented, customer/client-focused, innovative and forward-thinking, strategically focused, visionary in leadership, collaborative, proactive, and possessing commercial acumen.
Salary Information
Pursuant to New York pay transparency laws, the law firm provides a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. The estimated New York range is $200,000 to $280,000. Actual compensation will be influenced by factors such as the level of relevant experience, skill sets, training, licensure and certifications, internal equity, market data, and other job-related factors permitted by law. The range is based on a full-time work schedule, and additional compensation may include an annual discretionary bonus.
