Organization Overview:
The **Members Only** (HHSC) is responsible for providing health and human services to the citizens of Texas. As part of this mission, the Chief Counsel division oversees legal matters related to health care provider fraud, waste, and abuse in the Medicaid system and other health and human services programs. The Legal Assistant III position plays a critical role in supporting the Chief Counsel's efforts in investigating and prosecuting these cases.
Job Summary:
The Legal Assistant III is a senior-level position within the Chief Counsel division of HHSC. This role involves reviewing and analyzing complex cases of health care provider fraud, waste, and abuse in the Medicaid system and other health and human services programs. The Legal Assistant III will work closely with the Director of Litigation to make recommendations on pursuing administrative actions against providers. This position may also serve as a team lead and assist in training other personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
• Manage a large caseload of active matters, reviewing files and making recommendations on pursuing administrative actions against providers.
• Conduct research and analysis on complex legal and medical issues.
• Draft, proofread, and finalize legal documents and correspondence.
• Organize case materials and maintain information in electronic case management systems.
• Schedule and coordinate meetings, depositions, hearings, and interviews.
• Update databases and generate reports.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Five years of full-time professional experience in performing research, drafting, and editing in the medical and/or legal field.
• Paralegal certification preferred.
• Strong knowledge of legal terminology, laws, and procedures.
• Excellent research and analytical skills.
• Proficiency in using legal and medical research resources.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer software applications.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines.
