Job Title: Litigation Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
The Litigation Assistant is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the law firm, providing administrative services, and supporting the legal team. Key responsibilities include:
- Performing administrative duties such as scheduling calendar hearings and deadlines, organizing case files, and managing logistics.
- Maintaining pleadings and discovery indexes.
- Organizing exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs, and appendices.
- Implementing and improving administrative processes for more efficient workflow.
- Collecting, examining, and organizing evidence and other legal documents for attorney review and case preparation.
- Drafting and proofreading correspondence and legal documents, such as pleadings and contracts.
- Researching regulations, laws, and legal articles to assist with the preparation of reports, case files, and legal advice.
- Managing client billing by preparing, finalizing, and sending out bills, and resolving billing issues in cooperation with the billing attorney.
- Communicating with clients and witnesses to schedule meetings, interviews, and depositions.
- Managing, organizing, and maintaining documents in paper or electronic filing systems.
Education and Experience Information:
- A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
- An associate's degree in paralegal studies, a paralegal certificate, or a bachelor's degree is preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience as an administrative assistant (preferably in a law firm or in a corporate legal department), legal assistant, legal secretary, or paralegal is required.
- Experience in Personal Injury, Workers Comp, Premises, or other injury-related practice areas is preferred.
- The candidate must possess the ability to multi-task, prioritize, handle a fast-paced environment, and manage workload with a great attitude and minimal supervision.
- Strong written and communication skills, proficiency in scheduling calendar depositions, mediation, and hearings are required.
- Applicable knowledge of motions, discovery, evidence, litigation documentation, court rules, and procedures is necessary.
- The ability to juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment is essential.
- Extensive computer and database expertise, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and typing no less than 35 wpm is required.
