Job Responsibilities:
The role of a Patent Agent in the Life Sciences field involves working within the Patents and Innovations department, specifically focusing on counseling and prosecution. The candidate is expected to be a self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and collaborative individual with a deep intellectual curiosity in the sciences. Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with inventors and scientists to understand and document their inventions.
- Preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications related to life sciences.
- Conducting patentability analyses and searches to ensure the novelty of inventions.
- Providing strategic advice on patent portfolios and intellectual property rights.
- Assisting in the management and development of client relationships.
- Staying updated with the latest developments in life sciences and patent law.
- Working closely with legal teams to ensure compliance with patent laws and regulations.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in one of the following fields:
- Cell or Molecular Biology
- Immunology
- Biochemistry
- Bioinformatics
- Bioengineering
- Organic Chemistry
- Medicinal Chemistry
- Cancer Biology
- Pharmacology
- Biophysics
- Digital Health focused disciplines
An advanced degree is required for this position. Prior experience as a patent agent, or experience within a law firm or the industry, is considered a plus.
Salary Information:
The salary range for the Patent Agent – Life Sciences position is between $145,000 and $210,000, depending on the step level of the candidate. Additionally, discretionary merit bonuses may be awarded.
