Job Title: Immigration Paralegal I
Job Responsibilities:
An Immigration Paralegal I is responsible for coordinating with attorneys in the preparation, filing, and monitoring of various immigration and nationality law matters. The role requires a comprehensive knowledge of the immigration process and mastery of multiple case types, with an increasing level of client interaction. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading email and phone communications with clients under the direction of a Senior Paralegal or Attorney.
- Providing guidance to assignees regarding proprietary systems and case processing.
- Understanding client communication procedures and requirements.
- Inputting client services rendered and sending them to Accounting for processing.
- Demonstrating complete competence in previously handled case types and striving to advance and broaden their knowledge base.
- Processing more advanced and varied corporate immigration cases.
- Evaluating cases, relaying concerns, and proactively escalating issues to the appropriate team members.
- Preparing forms, letters, documents, and correspondence for attorney review and adapting tools and resources for casework that deviates from templates.
- Managing the status of all filed applications and petitions and finalizing documents after attorney review.
- Utilizing document and data management systems to prepare, monitor, and record all aspects of client casework as per policy.
- Preparing internal caseload reports for management.
- Sharing process flow with assignees and identifying problematic cases to discuss strategies and/or solutions with an Attorney.
- Performing research to obtain information such as background on a company or industry, current wages, processing procedures, and standard processing times.
- Initiating contact with government agencies to obtain necessary information and alerting Senior Paralegals and/or attorneys regarding potential process delays or problems.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the Immigration Paralegal I position should possess the following qualifications:
- Comfortable and able to thrive in an extremely high-volume environment.
- Demonstrate sound judgment and the ability to execute tasks with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to catch and correct errors in their work and the work of others.
- Superior client service skills.
- Ability to effectively prioritize cases, caseload, and other assigned tasks.
- Capability to meet deadlines and goals.
- Proficiency in MS Office, scanning, copying, and the ability to learn, apply, and effectively navigate daily use of proprietary software.
- Typically at least 1+ years of . corporate immigration experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree, 1-year law-related experience under a licensed attorney, or a Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program.
Working Conditions:
The working conditions for the Immigration Paralegal I position include:
- Ability to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, and reach on a daily basis.
- Capability to perform general office administrative activities such as copying, filing, delivering, and using the telephone.
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Regular and on-time attendance.
- Must be able to prioritize, schedule, and complete testing required for multiple applications with overlapping schedules.
- A certain degree of creativity and flexibility is required.
- Hours may exceed 40 hours per week.
- Occasional travel by conventional means, including aircraft and motor vehicles, within the region and to other locations as required.
