Job Title: Immigration Paralegal I
Job Responsibilities:
An Immigration Paralegal I is tasked with collaborating with attorneys to prepare, file, and monitor various immigration and nationality law matters. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of the immigration process, mastery of multiple case types, and increasing interaction with company clients. Primary responsibilities include:
- Leading client communications through email and phone under the direction of a Senior Paralegal or Attorney.
- Providing guidance to assignees concerning proprietary systems and case processing.
- Enhancing understanding of client communication procedures and requirements.
- Inputting client services rendered and forwarding them to Accounting for processing.
- Demonstrating complete competence in previously handled case types and striving to broaden knowledge while showing increasing independence in case handling.
- Processing advanced and varied corporate immigration cases.
- Evaluating cases, relaying concerns, and proactively escalating issues to the appropriate team members.
- Preparing forms, letters, documents, and correspondence for attorney review; adapting tools and resources for casework that deviates from templates, and increasing knowledge of best practices.
- Managing the status of all filed applications and petitions and finalizing documents after attorney review.
- Utilizing document and data management systems to prepare, monitor, and record all aspects of client casework as per company policy.
- Preparing internal caseload reports for management.
- Sharing process flow with assignees and identifying problematic cases to discuss strategies and/or solutions with an attorney.
- Performing research to obtain information such as background on a company or industry, current wages, processing procedures, standard processing times, etc.
- Initiating contact with government agencies to obtain necessary information and alerting Senior Paralegal and/or attorney regarding potential process delays/problems.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the Immigration Paralegal I position should have the following qualifications:
- Comfort and ability to thrive in an extremely high-volume environment.
- Demonstrated sound judgment and the ability to execute tasks effectively with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to catch and correct errors in their own work and the work of others.
- Superior client service skills.
- Ability to effectively prioritize cases, caseload, and other assigned tasks, such as projects and company management responsibilities.
- Capability to meet deadlines and goals.
- Proficiency in MS Office, Scan/Copy, and the ability to learn, apply, and effectively navigate daily use of proprietary software.
- Typically, at least 1+ year(s) of . corporate immigration experience.
- A Bachelor’s Degree, 1-year law-related experience under a licensed attorney, or a Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program.
