Job Title: Senior Law Specialist
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage the contract process from inception to completion, collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Independently review, draft, and execute contracts to support sales and internal operations, ensuring compliance with approved templates.
- Lead and execute special legal projects, including M&A activities, and contribute as a legal subject matter expert within departmental and company projects and committees.
- Assist in managing the company's intellectual property.
- Oversee the Department’s work in managing company records retention policies and ensure company-wide policy adherence.
- Review incoming legal actions and prepare responses for issued subpoenas and customer complaints from insurance departments.
- Maintain awareness of current events and industry topics, identifying patterns and trends to recognize potential issues related to company products, programs, or operations.
- Perform legal and factual research and recommend appropriate courses of action.
- Serve as the department lead for maintaining the contract and legal matter management database.
- Build and maintain positive internal and external customer relationships, providing services in a timely and efficient manner.
- Assist with department needs, acting as back-up to the assigned Compliance professional to review marketing and communications materials for legal compliance.
- Demonstrate leadership by directing own tasks and responsibilities with minimal guidance, exhibiting core skills, integrity, and resourcefulness.
- Motivate and influence others through a diligent, professional approach and assist in training and mentoring others within or outside of the department.
- Execute projects to completion with attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
- Minimum of 8+ years of related experience in a legal office or a work environment related to areas of responsibility.
- Paralegal certification or training is desirable.
Computer Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, SharePoint, Excel, Teams, DocuSign, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to learn various software and research applications.
Other Required Skills and Abilities:
- Substantive legal knowledge and creativity in problem-solving.
- Use of independent discretion and judgment.
- Analytical skills and personal judgment to establish and prioritize goals.
- Ability to prioritize work independently using project management techniques.
- Understanding of insurance regulatory requirements and their impact on the role.
- Ability to understand how the company’s business and support areas operate and interact with each other, ensuring necessary cross-company engagement.
