Job Title: Litigation Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform administrative duties, including scheduling calendar hearings and deadlines, organizing case files, and managing logistics.
- Maintain pleadings and discovery indexes to ensure all legal documents are up-to-date and accessible.
- Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs, and appendices for attorney review and case preparation.
- Implement and improve upon administrative processes to enhance workflow efficiency.
- Collect, examine, and organize evidence and other legal documents for attorney review and case preparation.
- Draft and proofread correspondence and legal documents such as pleadings and contracts.
- Conduct research on regulations, laws, and legal articles to assist with the preparation of reports, case files, and legal advice.
- Manage client billing by preparing, finalizing, and sending out bills, and resolving billing issues in cooperation with the billing attorney.
- Communicate with clients and witnesses to schedule meetings, interviews, and depositions.
- Manage, organize, and maintain documents in both paper and electronic filing systems.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the needs of the business.
Education and Experience Information:
- A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
- An associate's degree in paralegal studies, a paralegal certificate, or a bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience as an administrative assistant, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department, as a legal assistant, legal secretary, or paralegal.
- Experience in personal injury, workers' compensation, premises, or other injury-related practice areas is preferred.
- Must have the ability to multi-task, prioritize, handle a fast-paced environment, and manage workload with a positive attitude and minimal supervision.
- Strong written and communication skills, proficiency in scheduling depositions, mediation, and hearings.
- Applicable knowledge of motions, discovery, evidence, litigation documentation, court rules, procedures, and practices.
- Highly organized with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Extensive computer and database expertise, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and the ability to type no less than 35 words per minute.
Salary Information:
- The salary range for this position is $55,000 USD per year.
