Litigation Paralegal The candidate will do continual review and management of case files. Obtain necessary authorizations for medical records (requires knowledge regarding HIPAA regulations. Identify healthcare providers from whom to obtain pertinent records. Collect, organize, safeguard and electronically store medical records and imaging whilst maintaining an inventory log of same. Prepare initial discovery, ., interrogatories, request for production, request for admissions. Vet and engage with subject matter experts. Journal deadlines for responses and monitor for timeliness. Prepare draft responses to discovery, including document productions and corresponding privilege logs. Prepare legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, chronologies, agreements, deposition summaries/abstracts and trial and/or mediation binders for use by attorneys. Investigate facts as requested by attorneys. Ensure proper indexing and filing of original legal documents. Prepare trial exhibits. Schedule and prepare expert lay witnesses for trial. Attend trial, as necessary.
The candidate should have a High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's Degree is preferred. Should have 5+ years of civil defense litigation experience required. Only applicants with this experience will be considered. Experience in personal injury, property damage and medical malpractice preferred. Experience with trial preparation and participation/attendance, including organization of witness materials and preparation of physical and electronic exhibits. Knowledge of complex litigation (. medical malpractice, construction, products liability). Working knowledge of the rules and procedures of IL and MO State and Federal Court systems (including experience in eFiling). Demonstrated proficiency in the use of the internet, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel), Adobe, iManage; working knowledge of Relativity. Writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; varies writing style to meet needs. Listens and seeks clarification; responds well to questions. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully. Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness and attention to detail. Looks for ways to improve and promote quality. Synthesizes complex or diverse information; Collects and researches data. Takes independent actions and calculated risks; asks for help when needed.
