Trusts & Estates Paralegal Candidate must be experienced as an estate planning paralegal or individuals with a strong accounting background, and an interest in using experience to contribute to our dynamic Private Client practice group, will be considered. Will support experienced lawyers who help families develop tax-efficient estate and family business succession plans and assist trustees and personal representatives navigate the estate and trust administration process. Secure and organize documents related to the client s estate. Assist in valuing assets. Determine title to assets. Draft estate planning documents (wills, trusts, beneficiary designation forms, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, living wills) and documents transferring title. Prepare memos and charts summarizing estate plans. Prepare and file pleadings and other documents required in the estate administration process. Prepare and file income, gift, estate, and generation-skipping transfer tax returns. Find and secure probate and non-probate assets. Prepare an inventory listing of the assets beginning with the date of death. Prepare accountings from the date of death through the closing of the estate/trust process. Advise on decedents final bill payments. Assist with the sale of estate property. Transfer assets into the name of the estate, trust, or beneficiaries. Maintain a calendar that includes dates and deadlines for filing pleadings, tax forms, claims and making distributions. Prepare, review, analyze and organize documents for estate planning transactions, and documents in connection with the formation and ongoing administration, maintenance and governance of trusts and business entities. Correspond with clients, accountants, financial advisors, bank officers, and city and county offices. Work closely with lawyers, other paralegals and clients on the above and a wide range of other matters.
Requirements: A paralegal certificate and/or 4-year college degree. 3-5 years of previous estate/trust administration experience preferred. Background in accounting is a plus. Timely, energetic, highly organized, detail-oriented and disciplined, with the willingness to work hard. Ability to work well independently and as part of a team through effective communication and organizational strategies. Ability to manage workflow and work under tight deadlines and other time constraints with competing and shifting priorities. Knowledge of and commitment to the utilization of technology. Ability to bill 1,550 hours annually to meet the firm s billing expectations for paralegals. Strong project management skills.
