Job Title: Practice Group Director

Job Responsibilities:

1. Human Resources/Talent Management:
- Supervise Practice Group paraprofessionals and other non-lawyer business professionals.
- Facilitate the recruitment of lawyers and their effective integration into the law firm.
- Ensure that all timekeepers receive appropriate mentoring and development opportunities.
- Assist Practice Group Leaders and Legal Talent Management with workload management for all timekeepers.
- Collaborate with the Diversity and Inclusion team to achieve related recruiting, development, promotion, and retention goals.
- Work with Practice Group partners and the legal talent management team on associate and paraprofessional performance feedback and compensation determinations.

2. Financial Management:
- Monitor, analyze, and recommend improvements in timekeeper productivity, workload, and staffing levels.
- Collaborate with the Legal Project Management team to promote and implement policies and processes to enhance value.
- Assist in developing and implementing alternative fee pricing models.
- Assess Practice Group financial performance by reviewing monthly financial results and presenting suggestions for focus and improvement.
- Provide analysis and recommendations to leadership regarding the group’s performance in areas such as utilization, headcount, revenue generation, and expense management.
- Coordinate the annual setting of billing rates, billable hour targets, and other budget items with Finance.

3. Client Relations and Marketing:
- Facilitate the creation, maintenance, and distribution of client reports, legal budget tracking mechanisms, and related client-facing solutions.
- Collaborate with the assigned Marketing liaison to facilitate communication and cooperation with other Practice Groups, Client Teams, and Industry Groups.
- Confer with the Marketing liaison on activities relating to marketing budgets, sponsorships, conferences, and other group initiatives, and take an active role where appropriate.
- Contribute business-side perspective to Marketing liaisons for responses to RFPs.

4. Operations/Systems:
- Promote and implement the consistent and innovative use of technology and knowledge management resources across the platform.
- Streamline processes and procedures within the Practice Groups.

5. Internal Leadership:
- Assist in creating business plans for assigned Practice Groups and industry teams and assist with and monitor execution of such plans.
- Promote cohesiveness, collaboration, and morale in Practice Groups.
- Share and leverage timekeeper knowledge and experience within and between Practice Groups to add client value.
- Support the law firm’s commitment to diversity and inclusion through Practice Group operations.
- Support the law firm’s commitment to the ABA Challenge on Lawyer Well-Being.

Education and Experience Information:

- Bachelor’s degree required; post-graduate degree is preferred.
- At least 7 to 10 years of relevant supervisory and management experience.
- Excellent organizational, planning, written, and oral communication skills; strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously and work well under pressure.
- Demonstrated leadership results in areas such as people management, technology, and financial/project management.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of an organization.
- Team player and leader of peers, with the ability to train others.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully drive change and innovation.
- Strong analytical skills, combined with a strong attention to detail.

Salary Information:

The pay range for this position in Minnesota is an annual salary of $175,000 to $225,000. This range represents the law firm’s good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will depend on several factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location, and may fall outside the range indicated.
