Job Title: Paralegal/Legal Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
The Paralegal/Legal Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the litigation team within the law firm. The position requires a detail-oriented and skilled individual who is adept at managing various tasks essential for the smooth operation of legal practices. The primary responsibilities include:
- Managing and calendaring state and federal court deadlines to ensure timely submissions and compliance with legal procedures.
- Preparing basic legal documents such as notices, filings, and correspondence, ensuring accuracy and adherence to legal standards.
- Proofreading legal documents, including letters, motions, discovery materials, and pleadings, to maintain high-quality and error-free submissions.
- E-filing documents in state and federal courts, demonstrating proficiency in using electronic filing systems.
- Communicating effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and vendors, including court reporters, process servers, and e-discovery providers, to facilitate smooth case progression.
- Maintaining professional and courteous communication with court personnel to address any procedural or scheduling questions.
- Scheduling and preparing for hearings, depositions, mediations, and meetings, ensuring all logistical details are arranged.
- Organizing and managing cases using research tools such as Westlaw, conducting internet research as necessary.
- Maintaining organized and accurate case files, both in physical and electronic formats, to ensure easy access and retrieval of information.
- Preserving confidentiality and exercising sensitivity and discretion when handling client matters, maintaining the ethical standards of the legal profession.
- Assisting with various administrative tasks to support the overall functioning of the litigation team.
Education and Experience Information:
The ideal candidate for the Paralegal/Legal Assistant position should meet the following education and experience criteria:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a legal assistant within the state of Florida, showcasing a strong understanding of local legal procedures and requirements.
- Familiarity with state and federal court rules, allowing for effective management of case deadlines and legal documentation.
- Proficiency in using Adobe, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as court e-filing systems, demonstrating the technical skills necessary for efficient document management and communication.
- A strong knowledge base of legal terminology, processes, and court rules/procedures, ensuring accurate and effective support for attorneys.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, allowing for effective interaction with various stakeholders in the legal process.
- Superior organizational skills and attention to detail, enabling the management of multiple priorities and independent work.
- While a bachelor’s degree is preferred, it is not a requirement for this position.
Salary Information:
The Paralegal/Legal Assistant position offers a yearly salary ranging from $80, to $85,, reflecting the level of experience and expertise required for the role.
