Job Title: Trademark Docketing Specialist
Job Responsibilities:
The Trademark Docketing Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the legal team within the Trademark group at the law firm. The primary responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and processing a significant volume of emails, correspondence, mailings, and pleadings related to trademark matters from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), clients, foreign counsel, and other foreign trademark offices.
- Maintaining a comprehensive docket for trademark attorney cases using a web-based docketing system.
- Scanning and saving hard and soft copy documents, adhering to the firm's naming conventions, and ensuring they are forwarded to the appropriate legal team members.
- Reporting documents received and deadlines docketed to responsible parties (attorney/paralegal/IPS/secretary) in accordance with the docketing department standards.
- Preparing and distributing monthly, weekly, and final deadline docket reports that reflect upcoming due dates and reminders to each attorney/client team for critical prosecution deadlines.
- Keeping thorough records of all docketed items to resolve any questions regarding specific deadlines and/or methods used.
- Coordinating with attorneys regarding law changes and local rules specific to governing calculation of out-of-state docketing deadlines to ensure accuracy.
- Assisting with other docketing-related duties, reports, and special projects as necessary.
Competencies required for this role include job knowledge and technical skills, effective communication, teamwork, and providing exceptional customer/client experience.
Education and Experience Information:
- A minimum of 3 years of trademark docketing experience is required.
- Knowledge of WebTMS, PATTSY Wave, or other docketing software is essential.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are necessary.
- Prior knowledge of US and foreign trademark prosecution processes and understanding of relevant documents is strongly preferred.
- Experience or ability to interface with USPTO, WIPO, and other websites regarding trademark matters is required.
- An expert ability to prepare accurate, highly detailed work and excellent proofreading skills are needed.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are crucial.
- The position requires the ability and soft skills to work effectively with personnel at all levels of seniority within the firm.
- Aptitude for understanding a variety of databases and software is necessary.
Salary Information:
The salary for the Trademark Docketing Specialist position varies based on location and experience. For Colorado, the salary range is - per hour, while for Washington DC, it ranges from - per hour. Additionally, a discretionary bonus may be available based on performance.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
The role is situated in a professional office atmosphere with a sedentary work environment, primarily involving sitting or standing for prolonged periods. The position may occasionally require off-hour meetings and events. Physical requirements include the ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods, manipulate weights of at least ten pounds, perform repetitive wrist/hand/finger movements, and communicate clearly.
