Position Summary:
The Public Defenders Office, 9th Circuit is seeking a highly qualified and experienced General Counsel Attorney to serve as the chief legal advisor for the agency. This position will provide comprehensive legal counsel, representation, and guidance to agency leadership and employees on a wide range of legal issues, including human resources, contracts, compliance, and legislative affairs. The General Counsel will also be responsible for managing legal risks and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and representation to agency leadership, staff, and internal stakeholders on a variety of legal matters.
- Represent the agency in administrative hearings, disputes, and litigation.
- Review and draft agency policies, contracts, and other legal documents to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
- Advise and assist the HR department on employment law matters.
- Monitor and analyze legislative developments and advise on potential legal and regulatory changes.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Develop and deliver training programs for agency staff on legal topics.
- Supervise other legal staff and manage legal budgets and outside counsel contracts.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the Florida Bar and in good standing.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience practicing law, with significant experience in HR, contracts, and legislative affairs.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws, public sector regulations, and administrative law.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
