Job Title: Staff Accountant

Job Responsibilities:
The Staff Accountant at the law firm is tasked with a variety of essential financial responsibilities. These include performing monthly bank reconciliations for all local operating, money market, and trust accounts, and recording necessary journal entries for adjustments. The accountant is also responsible for coordinating the resolution of all bank variances with Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Treasury Services, and reconciling cleared checks for all firm accounts.

A daily review of all firm bank accounts for accuracy against the accounting system is required. This includes monitoring accounts for returns (ACH, check) and resolving daily account variances. The Staff Accountant assists with the accounting systems daily balancing, month-end close cycle, and year-end close cycle. They are responsible for reconciling client credit card payments monthly and resolving any issues that arise.

The role involves assisting with the preparation and filing of all firm personal property tax returns, as well as preparing monthly and annual use tax filings. The Staff Accountant is responsible for organizing accounting files, both physical and electronic, including tax filings, leases, and bank documents. Additionally, the position requires completing special projects as requested.

Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. While three years of experience is preferred, new college graduates will also be considered. Experience in the legal field is a plus. The candidate must have a strong understanding of general ledger, balance sheet, income statement, and financial reporting principles.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is necessary, with advanced technical skills in Excel required. Experience with Aderant accounting software, or similar software, is highly desired. The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication, time management, interpersonal, and organizational skills. They should be a proactive, inquisitive, and analytical problem solver, able to exercise independent judgment with a proven track record of improvements in areas of responsibility.

The candidate should have flexibility and the ability to prioritize workload effectively, with excellent attention to detail required.
