Job Title: Backup and Storage Engineer
Job Responsibilities:
The Backup and Storage Engineer at the law firm is a critical role within the Technology Infrastructure & Development Operations team. The individual in this position is tasked with managing the firm's storage, backup, and disaster recovery (DR) systems. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing enterprise storage systems, encompassing both on-premises SAN and cloud-based storage solutions.
- Analyzing storage system performance and capacity to ensure optimal utilization and performance, as well as forecasting future storage needs.
- Implementing storage tiering and data lifecycle management strategies to ensure data protection and high availability.
- Configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting enterprise backup solutions across on-premises and cloud environments to ensure successful backup job completion and timely recovery.
- Creating and maintaining configuration, procedural, and troubleshooting documentation for storage and backup environments.
- Collaborating with stakeholders and management to develop, implement, and improve data backup policies and retention strategies.
- Participating in on-call support and off-hours maintenance as required.
- Implementing necessary hardware and/or software for all tier and affinity infrastructure.
- Coordinating with vendors for activities such as architecture planning, system integration, and firmware and software updates.
- Complying with all department policies, standards, and procedures.
- Participating in change control and change management processes, including risk assessment, documentation, and post-change review.
- Responding to administrative requests and responsibilities in a timely manner.
- Performing all other duties as assigned or required.
Education and Experience Information:
Required:
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage, and other firm applications after orientation.
- Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours as required.
- Ability to travel as required.
- A minimum of 4 years of directly applicable experience in system administration with advanced systems engineering.
- Senior candidates should have 6+ years of directly applicable experience in the field and performing exempt-level duties.
- Experience with NetApp storage and enterprise storage protocols, including CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, and FC.
- Experience with enterprise backup technologies.
- Familiarity with VMWare and other enterprise hypervisors.
- Experience with Hyperscalers, specifically Azure or AWS.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or an associated discipline.
- Current AWS, Azure, or VMware certifications.
- Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment.
Experience with:
- Scripting using PowerShell and/or Python.
- Data encryption solutions.
- Enterprise DR methodologies and technologies.
- DevOps technologies and methods.

- Strong project management skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into simple language.

- High level of organizational skills required to adequately manage projects, monitor numerous live systems simultaneously, ascertain trends indicating problems, and maintain accurate up-to-date records.
Salary Information:
The law firm offers a competitive compensation and excellent benefits package, committed to fair and equitable employment practices. The expected annual pay range for this position with a full-time schedule is $110,000 - $145,000. The final offer amount will depend on geographic location, applicable experience, and skillset of the candidate. Senior-level candidates may be considered for this position and would be eligible for a higher salary range based on experience.
