Job Title: Administrative Prosecution Unit (APU) Prosecutor

Job Responsibilities:
The Administrative Prosecution Unit (APU) Prosecutor at the organization is tasked with a variety of critical responsibilities aimed at ensuring the integrity and accountability of law enforcement practices. The primary duties include:

- Preparing cases for trial by identifying and interviewing witnesses, gathering and analyzing evidence, developing trial strategies, drafting opening and closing arguments, and presenting and cross-examining witnesses during the trial.
- Drafting charges and specifications related to the cases.
- Preparing various legal documents such as briefs, motions, and legal opinions.
- Negotiating plea agreements and recommending suitable penalties when deemed appropriate.
- Maintaining detailed and accurate records of all actions taken during the course of prosecution.
- Collaborating closely with investigators within the organization to build strong cases.
- Being well-versed in the policies and procedures of the New York Police Department (NYPD), including the newly implemented Disciplinary Matrix.
- Coordinating with the NYPD Department Advocate's Office as necessary to ensure alignment and cooperation.
- Participating in the training of investigators to enhance the effectiveness of the overall team.
- Engaging in special projects and developing policy recommendations for the Board and Executive staff of the organization as needed.

Education and Experience Information:
The position requires admission to the New York State Bar and at least four years of recent, full-time, responsible, relevant, and satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar. Of these four years, eighteen months must involve the supervision of other attorneys, or be in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity, or involve performing highly complex and significant legal work. It is essential for incumbents to remain members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of their employment.

Salary Information:
The salary range for the APU Prosecutor position is between $66, and $143,, reflecting the level of experience and qualifications of the candidate.

Residency Requirement:
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
