Job Title: Senior Accountant
Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Accountant at the law firm is tasked with managing the overall general accounting functions. Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing basic accounting procedures such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, time billing, payroll, general ledger, and tax payments.
- Receiving and verifying invoices and requisitions for goods and services.
- Preparing manual checks when necessary.
- Establishing and maintaining confidential employee and business files.
- Managing financial statement preparation, and month-end and quarterly closing activities.
- Monitoring and reviewing records of assets, liabilities, and other financial transactions.
- Serving as the company liaison with auditors, specifically for annual financial and 401K audits.
- Performing all basic accounting procedures, including financial statement preparation, month-end closing, journal entries, general ledger maintenance, fixed assets, and margin analysis.
- Preparing supporting schedules for financial statement preparation.
- Communicating with vendors to address past due invoices and providing weekly status updates to management.
- Reviewing, analyzing, and reconciling general ledger accounts and investment transactions, coupled with preparing quarterly reports for management.
- Performing monthly analysis of operations.
- Providing courteous customer service to visitors, clients, and vendors.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required, with a CPA or MBA being preferred.
- A minimum of 5+ years of progressive accounting experience is necessary, with at least 2+ years in a law firm or legal services environment.
- A deep understanding of GAAP and legal industry accounting practices is crucial.
- Experience with trust accounting and compliance with legal ethics rules is essential.
- Proficiency in accounting software and legal billing platforms is required.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are necessary.
- The ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities is expected.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to create pivot tables and perform data analysis, is necessary. Experience with QuickBooks is required, and knowledge of SmartAdvocate or similar case management software is a plus.
- A high level of integrity and professional ethics is a must.
Salary Information:
- The salary range for the Senior Accountant position is $85,000 to $105,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

Work Location & Schedule Expectations:
- The position is based in the San Diego office and generally follows a Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM schedule. Some flexibility may be required and provided based on operational needs.
