Job Title: Financial Analyst
Job Responsibilities:
The Financial Analyst at the law firm will be responsible for a variety of financial and analytical tasks crucial to the firm's operations. Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and analyzing monthly financial and statistical reports for distribution to the firm's management team and all members. The type and quantity of reports may vary based on the firm's current focus.
- Developing, maintaining, and enhancing the system used for budget preparation, review, and finalization. This includes balancing the budget and distributing the final product to appropriate groups, with updates on a quarterly basis.
- Designing and preparing statistical reports on timekeepers for annual compensation evaluation.
- Assisting in the design and implementation of financial reports for monitoring performance by cost center, practice group, office, etc. This involves analyzing and troubleshooting system issues and maintaining information for accuracy, consistency, completeness, and value.
- Assisting in the development and design of the attorney desktop reporting application/dashboard, which includes knowing the structure of the accounting system tables, developing links, and designing the reports and screen output.
- Developing links into the relational database to make all reporting available on a real-time basis, enhancing current reporting tools for efficiency.
- Performing data analysis to identify trends and opportunities for financial improvement.
- Staying current with industry best practices and new financial technologies.
- Maintaining a strong understanding of financial accounting principles.
- Communicating and collaborating effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences to ensure seamless end-to-end processes.
- Occasionally traveling to other office locations as required.
- Completing other projects as requested.
Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Candidates should have at least three years of work-related experience, with legal experience being a plus. A minimum of three years of SQL experience is preferred. Extensive knowledge of computer software, particularly with applications such as Business Objects, Access, Iridium, Excel, Crystal Report, and PowerPoint, is necessary. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in legal software such as Aderant Expert, BillBlast, Prebill Manager, Emburse, Chrome River, and Intapp.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of general ledger, balance sheet, income statement, and financial reporting principles. They should demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for resolution and possess excellent communication, time management, interpersonal, and organizational skills with attention to detail. The role requires a pro-active, inquisitive, and analytical problem solver who can exercise independent judgment and recommend improvements in areas of responsibility. The ability to collaborate and cross-team with all finance team members, effectively present information, and respond to questions when interacting with legal professionals and colleagues is crucial. Flexibility and the ability to prioritize workload effectively are also essential.
Salary Information:
The offered salary for the Financial Analyst position will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, work location, individual skill set, previous/applicable experience, education, external market data, and consideration of internal equity.
