Job Title: Litigation Paralegal

Job Responsibilities:

The Litigation Paralegal at the law firm is responsible for supporting the Government Practice Group with a variety of tasks in the realm of general civil defense litigation. Key responsibilities include:

- Continual review and management of case files from the beginning stages through mediation, arbitration, trial, and settlement processes.
- Preparation of subpoenas to compel depositions and document productions.
- Drafting initial discovery documents such as interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admissions.
- Preparing draft responses to discovery, including document productions and corresponding privilege logs.
- Assisting attorneys in preparing for depositions by researching and engaging with subject matter experts.
- Monitoring deadlines to ensure timely responses.
- Drafting legal documents including briefs, pleadings, fact/medical chronologies, agreements, and preparing trial or mediation binders for attorney use.
- Investigating facts as requested by attorneys, which may include conducting social media research.
- Preparing for trials by creating trial notebooks, exhibit lists, and witness lists; managing witnesses; scheduling trial testimony; and preparing trial presentations and other related tasks.
- Attending trials as necessary to assist the legal team.

Education and Experience Information:

- A minimum of five years of experience in general civil litigation is required.
- A Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not mandatory.
- Experience working with or for government entities is also preferred.
- Candidates must have a working knowledge of internet software and proficiency with tools such as Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat Pro, LexisNexis, Pacer, Relativity, Sanction, TrialPad, iManage, and experience with e-filing in both State and Federal Court systems.
- Strong writing skills, including the ability to write clearly and informatively, edit work for spelling and grammar, and interpret written information.
- Experience with trial preparation and participation, including organizing witness materials and preparing physical and electronic exhibits.
- Familiarity with exhibit manipulation software such as Sanction, Trial Director, TrialPad, Relativity, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of complex litigation is important.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, accuracy, thoroughness, and a commitment to quality improvement are necessary.
- Ability to follow instructions, respond to management direction, and commit to additional work hours when necessary to reach goals.
- Must be able to balance team and individual responsibilities and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Maintaining confidentiality and accepting responsibility for actions are crucial.

Salary Information:

The estimated salary range for the Litigation Paralegal position is between $64,000 and $95,000 annually, specifically for applicants who will perform work in the state of Illinois. The final offered salary will be determined based on internal equity, the internal salary range, market data, applicant skills, relevant experience, degrees, or certifications. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and a 401(k) plan.
