Job Title: Litigation Paralegal - Pittsburgh
Job Responsibilities:
The position of Litigation Paralegal at the law firm in Pittsburgh involves working closely with litigation attorneys throughout all stages of the litigation process. This includes the commencement of cases, motions practice, discovery, evidentiary hearings, trial preparation, trials, post-trial filings, and appeals. Key responsibilities include:
- Processing and indexing documents, which involves Bates-stamping, redactions, duplication, and de-duplication.
- Setting up, maintaining, and organizing case materials in a chronological, numerical, or subject matter format. This also includes preparing summaries and lists of facts and documents.
- Creating and maintaining electronic case databases, running searches, retrieving files, preparing reports, and extracting relevant information.
- Providing technical support and managing data for the discovery process, which includes data identification, collection, review, analysis, and production. This role also involves overseeing the discovery process and collaborating with e-discovery vendors.
- Conducting factual research using various resources such as social media, internet research, newspapers, magazines, libraries, case documents, and other external sources.
- Preparing privilege logs.
- Assisting attorneys in preparing and conducting depositions, gathering and preparing documents relevant to deponents, organizing and handling exhibits, and summarizing deposition transcripts.
- Assisting with motions practice by collecting relevant documents, proofreading papers, organizing exhibits, and creating document indices for filing.
- Preparing and submitting electronic and hard-copy court filings, as well as creating, binding, and distributing copies.
- Preparing for and assisting with evidentiary hearings and trials by organizing exhibits, files, and supporting documents, coordinating trial set-up and logistics, assisting attorneys in the courtroom, and serving as a liaison between trial attorneys and in-house staff.
Education and Experience Information:
- A Bachelor's degree is required for this position.
- A Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program is preferred.
- Three years of complex litigation experience in a law firm is required.
- Trial experience is preferred but not required.
