Job Title: Director of Litigation and E-Discovery
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the law firm’s litigation support and e-discovery strategy. This includes the preservation, collection, review, and production of electronically stored information (ESI), technology selection, and workflow optimization.
- Consult with attorneys and clients on planning and implementing e-discovery solutions for large litigation projects, including vendor selection and pricing.
- Lead training and education initiatives for paralegals, attorneys, and staff regarding litigation support software, AI-driven technology, search design, and litigation policies.
- Collaborate with litigation practice group leaders and the Chief Information Officer to ensure tools are cost-effective and enhance productivity.
- Audit files across all offices to confirm compliance with Litigation Uniform Filing SOPs and coordinate training to ensure adherence.
- Work with the Paralegal Manager to ensure paralegals are highly trained and competent.
- Participate in continuing legal education and training programs to stay updated on developments in litigation practices and technology.
- Create and manage the Litigation Support budget.
- Facilitate the migration of files for lateral hires.
- Regularly review older cases to determine if they can be closed or removed from systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Manage and develop the Litigation Support Department staff, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluations.
- Oversee the day-to-day workflow of the litigation support team, ensuring tasks are prioritized and completed efficiently.
- Provide ongoing mentorship and guidance to paralegals and attorneys, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Expertise in litigation support software (including Reveal), AI technology, and the design of search terms.
- Expertise in the collection and production of records, compliance with discovery obligations, and data preservation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with legal teams, clients, and vendors.
- Excellent time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and implement process improvements.
- Proven leadership abilities with experience in managing a team.
- Understanding of State and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Management, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of paralegal experience, with at least 3 years in a litigation management role or similar position, with direct experience overseeing litigation support processes and teams.
