JOB SUMMARY
The law firm is seeking a full-time, experienced paralegal to support attorneys at its fast-paced, team-oriented office in Manhattan. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with experience in complex litigation and plaintiff firms, particularly in antitrust, securities, and consumer class actions. This role requires quick responsiveness and strong communication skills, as the candidate will collaborate with attorneys and paralegals in other law firm offices, primarily via email and telephone, and share documents through the firm's platform. The candidate will manage their own caseload, becoming familiar with their cases and any upcoming deadlines. A detail-oriented approach and superior organizational skills are essential, as is the ability to prioritize high-volume work in a dynamic environment. Strong grammar, editorial skills, and experience in proofreading and conforming citations to BlueBook rules are necessary.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review briefs and other documents, focusing on proofreading and cite checking.
- Occasionally draft supporting documentation, finalize, file, and serve documents.
- Assist attorneys with discovery and case management.
- Proofread, fact-check, and file complaints; handle service of complaints and monitor their status.
- Familiarity with or ability to determine pro hac vice procedures in various courts and prepare necessary paperwork.
- Experienced in e-filing and following court procedural rules for state and federal courts across the country, researching procedures as needed.
- Conduct factual research, background checks, or other case-related activities as assigned by an attorney.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provide support to multiple partners and associates while working under the guidance of a Paralegal Manager.
- Proofread and cite check all legal documents.
- Complete projects on time and accurately.
- E-filing in federal and state courts.
- Be willing and available to work overtime as needed.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience as a paralegal.
- Knowledge of Bluebook citation procedure and other rules outlined in Bluebook.
- Proficient proofreading and editorial skills with advanced grammar knowledge.
- Considerable knowledge of technical legal terminology.
- Considerable knowledge of legal processes and procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and Kofax Power PDF.
- Experience with Bloomberg, Westlaw, LexisNexis File & Serve, Pacer, Courtdrive, and electronic filing procedures (both federal and state).
- Experience with SharePoint document management system.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Graduation from an ABA-approved program of study for paralegals, or
- Graduation from a course of study for paralegals which is institutionally accredited but not ABA approved, requiring not less than the equivalent of 60 semester hours of classroom study.
