Job Title: Legal Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys in managing automotive liability cases from inception to resolution.
- Maintain and update case files, ensuring all documentation is organized and easily accessible.
- Monitor case deadlines and court appearances, and proactively communicate with attorneys to ensure timely compliance.
- Conduct research on relevant laws, regulations, and precedents related to automotive liability cases.
- Prepare legal documents, such as pleadings, motions, and briefs, under attorney supervision.
- Gather and organize evidence, medical records, accident reports, and other pertinent materials for use in litigation.
- Communicate with clients, insurance companies, and opposing counsel as directed by attorneys.
- Assist in drafting correspondence and maintaining client contact records.
- Ensure clients are informed of case progress and updates.
- Prepare and file legal documents with state and federal courts, adhering to jurisdiction-specific rules and procedures.
- Monitor case dockets and calendar deadlines for hearings, trials, and depositions.
- Maintain attorney calendars, schedule appointments, and coordinate meetings.
- Prepare and submit expense reports, invoices, and billing statements.
- Handle general administrative tasks, such as answering phones, sorting mail, and managing office supplies.
- Organize, index, and manage electronic and paper documents.
- Assist with document production, including redaction and Bates numbering.
- Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and other team members to ensure the smooth flow of information and tasks within the law firm.
Education and Experience Information:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Legal Assistant, with a focus on automotive liability cases.
- Proficiency in legal research and document drafting.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Knowledge of relevant state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to automotive liability.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal software (., CaseMap, Legal Files).
- Ability to work independently and handle confidential information with discretion.
- Associate's degree or relevant certification in legal studies preferred.
