Job Title: Early Assistance Advocate for Injured Employees (Ombudsman I)
Job Responsibilities:
The Early Assistance Advocate for Injured Employees (Ombudsman I) plays a crucial role in advocating, assisting, and educating injured employees within the Texas workers' compensation system. The primary duties include:
- Assisting injured employees one-on-one by answering questions and reviewing claims for medical and income benefits.
- Studying and analyzing the background of each claim to gather and evaluate information, including medical records and letters from doctors.
- Preparing and responding to requests for Designated Doctor examinations and implementing strategies to resolve claims early.
- Reporting and referring complaints, tracking claim status, and providing updates to injured employees.
- Educating injured employees about the workers’ compensation dispute process and relevant laws and rules.
- Assembling evidence, such as medical records and causation letters, for insurance carrier determinations or benefit proceedings.
- Contacting insurance carriers and medical providers to identify and resolve disputes.
- Assisting with referrals to social services with other state agencies and providing help in filing claims.
- Documenting customer interactions in the computer system and answering general customer service questions.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:

- One year of experience in claims management, insurance, casework, healthcare, social work, law office (paralegal/legal assistant), or workers’ compensation. Education and relevant experience may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.
The position requires knowledge of:
- Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Demonstrated skills required:
- Assisting the public, conflict resolution, problem-solving, report writing, and records maintenance.
- Interpreting and explaining laws and regulations, data entry, and retrieval.
- Customer service and use of correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
Demonstrated abilities required:
- Managing multiple, competing priorities.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with injured employees and staff.
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of employees and the public.
Salary Information:
- Salary (Pay Basis): $3, monthly.
Additional Information:
- The position involves moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of every job at the **Members Only**.
- Travel is required up to 25% of the time.
- The position is exempt from overtime status.
