Job Title: Paralegal - Responsive Pleadings
Job Responsibilities:
The Paralegal in the Responsive Pleadings department will assist attorneys with various tasks including fact investigation, legal research, document preparation and production, database management, and docketing/case management. The position is primarily focused on responsive pleadings for asbestos cases and includes functions specific to litigation practice such as discovery, deposition preparation, investigation, trial and mediation preparation, analysis of factual information, assistance in preparation of pleadings, motions and/or briefs, management of document production databases and case management databases, and trial participation. Essential job functions include:
- Maintaining a professional demeanor and attitude.
- Complying with firm policies.
- Sustaining attention to detail and quality of work.
- Developing technical proficiency in database use and management, internet/electronic research, and project folder/electronic file maintenance.
- Organizing and managing files independently or delegating similar tasks to Paralegal Assistants or Information Governance and supervising the same.
- Attending and participating in in-house CLEs.
- Supervising and mentoring Paralegal Assistants.
- Anticipating attorney needs.
- Handling all key duties independently without supervision of another Paralegal or Senior Paralegal.
- Meeting a billable hour requirement of 1500 hours per year.
Education and Experience Information:
- Asbestos/Toxic Tort litigation experience is mandatory.
- A Paralegal Certificate or a Bachelor’s degree in a law-related field, or an Associate’s degree with paralegal training, is required.
- Experience in Mass Tort/Asbestos is required, with Florida asbestos experience preferred.
Salary Information:
The compensation for this position varies based on skills, experience, location, and other factors permitted by law. The expected compensation ranges for this position in various states and jurisdictions are as follows:
- State of California: $84,000 - $112,000
- State of Colorado: $67,000 - $92,000
- State of Illinois: $72,000 - $98,000
- State of Maryland: $70,000 - $98,000
- State of Massachusetts: $76,000 - $90,000
- State of Minnesota: $89,000 - $100,000
- Jersey City, NJ: $85,000 - $116,000
- State of New York: $79,000 - $116,000
- State of Washington: $78,000 - $106,000
- Washington, DC: $85,000 - $115,000
The salaries mentioned do not include a discretionary bonus, which is non-guaranteed and dependent upon individual and firm performance.
