Legal Nurse Consultant (Hybrid) - Salary: $90,000-$100,000
The Hanover Insurance Group, a leading insurance company with over 170 years of experience, is seeking a Legal Nurse Consultant to join their Medical Claims team in Itasca, IL. This position offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement, with one or two days in the office and the rest remote. Position Overview:
As a Legal Nurse Consultant, you will provide detailed analysis of medical records and other pertinent medical information for liability claims. You will also serve as a subject matter expert and leader on the team, evaluating complex medical issues from various lines of business. This is a full-time exempt position.
In this role, you will:
- Review, analyze, and summarize medical records and other pertinent documents
- Conduct research on current medical literature and maintain a reference library for adjusters and attorneys
- Provide informed opinions on medical issues related to causality, standards of care, and prognosis of alleged injuries/illnesses
- Prepare exhibits for depositions, trials, or mediations, including charts, tables, graphs, and PowerPoint presentations
- Assist with locating and selecting medical expert witnesses and consultants
- Develop questioning for cross-examination of opposing medical experts
- Provide individualized training and development to adjusters and attorneys
- Attend roundtables, mediations, facilitations, settlement conferences, depositions, and trials (virtual and in-person)
- Participate in special projects and actively work with vendors and business partners
- Achieve expected production, referral, and roundtable goals
- Reduce and avoid costs by addressing relevant medical issues in claims
- Assist with training sessions and conduct research on relevant issues in defense of a claim
- Verify physician credentials and prepare adjusters and attorneys for depositions, mediations, and trials
- Provide demonstrative evidence, such as timelines and graphs, on medical issues when requested
Qualifications:
- Registered nurse with 5+ years of clinical experience in acute or ambulatory healthcare settings, preferably in orthopedic, neurosurgery, neurology, or elder care facilities
- Law degree, legal nurse consultant degree or certificate, or commensurate legal experience preferred
- Deep understanding of a variety of medical diagnoses, treatments, and prognoses, with a focus on injuries sustained in automobile and non-automobile accidents
- Understanding of standards of care in evaluating medical strategy issues for elder care facilities and providers preferred
- Advanced knowledge of casualty claims
- Familiarity with local and national healthcare information resources and medical experts
- Knowledge of legal terminology and basic litigation processes
- Strong inquiry, analytical, and technical writing skills
- Effective interpersonal communication skills
- Organizational skills for time management, task prioritization, and integration of information from various sources
- Fluent in English
- Ability to work on-site and travel as needed
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other standard office equipment
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods and occasionally work more than 40 hours per week
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing, and sometimes stressful environment
- Must be able to work in a noisy/loud work environment when in the office
